Store & Forward
is a digital technique of moving audio and video to one or many locations.  The audio and video signals are compressed using MPEG and are forwarded, as data, by a data link such as a network or fiber optics.  Once this data has reached its destination it is stored for later playback, archiving, or further distribution.

Since Store & Forward is not a real time distribution of the MPEG data it provides tremendous flexibility with the data link.  Data can be forwarded at any speed from an ISDN line to a high-speed dedicated fiber.  Data can be forwarded at a rate that is slower or faster than real time.  This is dependent on the bandwidth of the Data Link.

Advantages of Store & Forward

Cost is lower than real time, with near real time delivery.
Video quality can be adjusted according to immediate needs.
Data can use available or low cost data links.
Delivery is faster and cheaper than FedEx.*
Data is already MPEG encoded and ready for distribution.
Each location has its own address, allowing for unique scheduling of content at each location.

Some Store & Forward Possibilities

A T1 line that is utilized by a computer data during the day can be used to forward new program material at night for subsequent playback.
Satellite time can be purchased using economical data channels instead of conventional video uplinks, and bargain rates can be negotiated by purchasing off peak times.  By using IP technology, data can be forwarded to unlimited locations, with the security of being sent to only authorized locations.
Provide new material for Video On Demand Servers.
Provide unique programming and playback schedules for each storage location needs.
